Social Media for Your Department or Organization

Heather Cohen serves as the Assistant Director of of Academic and Faculty Affairs for the School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics. Part of Heather's job includes maintaining the School's Twitter account, consulting with the School's departments on their other social media accounts, and developing content for their website.

Has your department been contemplating getting into social media, or just getting better, but you're not sure where to start? Do you feel like you're not hitting the audience you first started your Facebook page or Twitter account for? We'll go through popular social media programs, which audiences are where, how to put out engaging content and build your followers. By the end of the workshop you'll have a plan on how to get started or revamp, how to efficiently use your time, and how to check in with your accounts to make sure your office is getting out of it what you want.

Taking the Lead and Effecting Change

Presenters: Antoniah Lewis-Reese is a project manager, change agent, and strategic adviser currently applying her talents as the Executive Assistant to the Dean at the UIC School of Public Health. She holds a Masters in Business Administration from Roosevelt University and has nearly 20 years of professional experience in strategic management, process improvement, and enhancing organizational effectiveness.
The goal of this presentation is to help attendees understand what it means to be a leader and what it takes to be effective.  In this presentation, attendees will assess their personal leadership style, learn when and how to adapt it, discover the importance of working with a team, and how to lead change regardless of their position in the workplace.

Understanding the Constitutional Amendment on the November 6th Ballot
The proposed amendment would require three-fifths votes in the House and Senate to enhance retirement benefits for public employees.  Coming in at over 700 words, the amendment is longer than the entire first 10 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution (the Bill of Rights).  Please join our presenters, who will help you untangle the complicated language and share their perspectives on the potential implications if passed.  You will have an opportunity to submit questions during your registration which will be addressed at the close of the presentation.

Peer Learning: Managing Multiple Awards for a PI

APAC and the Office of Grants & Contracts invite you to a Peer-to-Peer Learning Event.  Come share your best practices, tips, and questions related to managing multiple awards for a PI (for example, separating and allocating costs, managing effort commitments, and budgeting/rebudgeting).  This will be a round-table discussion organized to address the questions and topics submitted by attendees.  Capacity is limited to allow for active participation.

This event is open to all individuals who handle multiple awards for a PI, regardless of specific job title or classification (academic professional, civil service, etc.).
